In 1967 introduceerde het Duitse automerk NSU een revolutionair model: de Ro80. De fabriek was niet beïnvloed door eerdere modellen, want men had nog niet eerder een model in het topsegment gepositioneerd.

Met deze introductie ging deze nieuwkomer zich direct meten met gevestigde merken als Mercedes en BMW.

De Ro80 was en is vooruitstrevend, niet alleen door zijn bijzondere aandrijfkrachtbron: de Rotatiemotor.

Deze motor, ontwikkeld door de Duitse ingenieur Felix Wankel, kenmerkt zich door zijn kleine afmetingen, fluisterstille karakter en soepelheid. 

In 1967 the German car manufacturer NSU introduced an revolutionary car: the Ro80. Till that time the factory was specialized in motorcycles and small cars like the NSU Prinz. In 1963 they produced the first production car with an Wankel engine: the Wankelspider.
Nobody expected them in the segment together with Mercedes and BMW.
The Ro80 is still an futuristic car, not only by his engine, the Wankel. This engine, developed by the German engineer Felix Wankel, helped the Ro80 to be a very easy car to drive, with smooth clutch action and before you know it you're soon heading for the speedlimit.
